4 Days Atlas Mountains Trek Overview.
Embark on a thrilling 4-day adventure to conquer Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa (4167m). This trek offers incredible views of the Atlas Mountains, lush green valleys, Berber villages, and a chance to meet local guides and muleteers. The ascent to Toubkal is non-technical, but involves some easy scrambling and snow slopes, especially in the winter months (October to May). The summit offers breathtaking views across the mountains to Marrakech in the north and the Sahara Desert to the south, with jagged peaks of the High Atlas stretching as far as you can see.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1700m) – Tizi Mzik (2684m) – Azib Tamsoult Refuge (2250m)
After breakfast in Marrakech, head towards the High Atlas Mountains via Tahnnaout, Oued Ghighaya, and Asni. Enjoy the stunning views of the Ghighaya valley before arriving at Imlil, a charming village located 65 km south of Marrakech. Meet your trekking team, then begin your hike towards the Tizi Mzik pass (2684m), where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Imlil valley and the summit of Toubkal. Continue the hike to Azib Tamsoult, where you’ll spend the night at the Refuge Azib Tamsoult. This day involves 5-6 hours of walking.
Day 2: Azib Tamsoult Refuge (2250m) – Tizi Aguelzim (3560m) – Toubkal Refuge (3207m)
Today’s trek is more challenging as you climb through the Ighouliden waterfalls, leaving the Azzadene Valley behind and heading towards the Tizi Aguelzim pass (3560m). From the top, enjoy spectacular views of the Atlas Mountains. Continue the trek to the Toubkal Refuge (3207m) where you’ll overnight. Expect about 6 hours of walking.
Day 3: Toubkal Refuge (3207m) – Toubkal Summit (4167m) – Toubkal Hut (3207m) – Aroumd Village (1940m)
An early start for the ascent to Mount Toubkal’s summit (4167m). If the weather permits, you’ll be treated to incredible views over the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. After taking in the views, descend back to the Toubkal Hut for a break and continue your journey down to Aroumd Village (1940m), where you’ll spend the night in a lodge. This is a long day with 8-9 hours of trekking, covering an ascent of 900m and a descent of almost 2500m.
Day 4: Aroumd Village (1940m) – Imlil (1700m) – Marrakech
After breakfast, enjoy a final descent from Aroumd Village to Imlil, before transferring back to Marrakech. Your 4-day trek through the stunning Atlas Mountains ends with unforgettable memories of Toubkal’s majestic summit and the surrounding landscapes.
