Discovering the Majestic High Atlas: Toubkal 7-Day Circuit Trek Overview.

The Toubkal 7-Day Circuit Trek offers an incredible opportunity to explore the stunning High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. This adventure takes you through green valleys, traditional Berber villages, and breathtaking landscapes, leading to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4167m), the highest peak in Morocco. The trek is non-technical but involves easy scrambling and some snow slopes, making it suitable for keen hikers. From the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Atlas Mountains, Marrakech to the north, and the beginning of the Sahara Desert to the south. The trek is available from the end of May to the end of October.

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Tacheddirt

After breakfast in Marrakech, you’ll drive to Imlil Valley via Asni, a vibrant market town and a popular starting point for trekkers. Once you meet your team and load your equipment, you’ll begin your hike towards Tacheddirt, about 8km from Imlil. The trail starts to climb as you reach Tizi N’Tamatert (2279m), followed by a descent to the picturesque village of Ouaneskra. From here, continue for another half-hour to Tacheddirt (3000m), where you’ll camp near the river.

Day 2: Tacheddirt – Azib Likemt

Today, you’ll cross the valley and embark on a steady climb to Tizi Likemt (3555m). The trail can be challenging due to the debris on the ground. Once at the top, enjoy your first views of Toubkal, followed by a long descent to Azib Likemt village, where you’ll camp for the night.

Day 3: Azib Likemt – Tizi n’Ourai – Amsouzert

This relatively easy day will take you through a variety of landscapes. From Tizi Ououraine (3120m), you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Toubkal, the Ifni Peak, and the Dome (3876m). The trail leads to Amsouzert, one of the most striking villages in the region, where you’ll spend the night in a simple village cottage.

Day 4: Amsouzert – Ifni Lake

West of Amsouzert, you’ll explore several small villages as you make your way to Lake Ifni, the only lake in the mountains. The lake is surrounded by rocky mountains and giant rubble piles, offering an unforgettable sight. You’ll reach the lake before noon and spend the afternoon relaxing by the shore, camping nearby for the night.

Day 5: Lake Ifni – Toubkal Refuge

After a relaxing day by the lake, it’s time for the most challenging day of the trek. The path is steep, leading you to Tizi n’Ouanoums (3664m), a narrow rock ledge. From there, it’s a long descent to the Nelter Hut (Toubkal Refuge), where you’ll spend the night, either inside the hut or camping outside.

Day 6: Toubkal Refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil

Start early and ascend to the summit of Mount Toubkal via a well-worn route. If conditions are favorable, the summit can be reached in 2-3 hours, offering spectacular views of the Atlas Mountains and the plains of Marrakech. After reaching the top, descend back to the Toubkal Refuge for a break before continuing down to Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd villages. Follow the river along a well-wooded path to Imlil.

Day 7: Aroumd Village (1900m) – Imlil (1700m) – Marrakech

On your final day, you’ll trek from Imlil to Aroumd (1900m), a Berber village nestled beneath the jagged peaks of the Western High Atlas, including Mount Aguelzim (3547m) and Aksouâl (3847m). After lunch in the village, return to your lodge for a shower and then drive back to Marrakech to conclude your adventure.

This 7-day circuit trek is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and culture of the High Atlas Mountains, offering both physical challenge and unforgettable views.
