Marrakech to Atlas Mountains: Embark on a 6-Day Trek Overview.
Embark on an unforgettable 6-day trek through the stunning High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, with a special focus on Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa (4167m). This trek offers exceptional views of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains, lush green valleys, Berber villages, and an adventure of a lifetime. The route is designed for keen hikers, with non-technical ascents, though it may include some easy scrambling and snow slopes, especially in winter (October to May). From the summit, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Marrakech to the north and the Sahara Desert to the south, surrounded by the jagged peaks of the High Atlas stretching as far as the eye can see.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imi Oughlad (1450m) – Tizi n’Tacht (2000m) – Tiziane (1750m)
In the morning, you’ll be transferred from Marrakech to Imi Oughlad (1450m), the starting point of your trek. After meeting your team and guides, and loading your luggage onto mules, you’ll begin your hike towards Tizi n’Tacht (2000m). After a lunch stop en route, continue your trek to the village of Tiziane (1750m), where you will have dinner and overnight at a guest house. This will be a 4-5 hour walk.
Day 2: Tiziane (1750m) – Tikent (1800m)
On this day, you’ll explore the rich valley of Azaden, known for its terrace cultivation, adobe villages, and fruit trees. After passing through the Tizi Takherrourte pass, enjoy a lunch stop before continuing to Tikent, a village abundant with walnut trees. Overnight at a guest house. This is a 5-6 hour trek.
Day 3: Tikent (1800m) – Tizi Tagoudalte (2040m) – Azib Tamsoult Shelter (2250m)
After breakfast, you’ll leave Tikent Valley and make your way towards Tizi Tagoudalte (2040m), offering panoramic views of the valley and the western side of Toubkal. The descent will lead you to the village of Tizi Oussem (1850m) for lunch, before continuing to Azib Tamsoult Shelter (2250m) for the night.
Day 4: Azib Tamsoult Shelter (2250m) – Tizi Aguelzim (3550m) – Toubkal Refuge (3207m)
After breakfast, the trek continues east towards Tizi Aguelzim (3550m), a moderate hike that will offer spectacular views of the surrounding area. From here, it’s a 3-hour hike southeast to the Toubkal Refuge (3207m), where you’ll spend the night in the shelter.
Day 5: Toubkal Refuge (3207m) – Toubkal Summit (4167m) – Toubkal Hut (3207m) – Aroumd Village (1940m)
Rise early for the climb to Mount Toubkal’s summit (4167m). If the weather is clear, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert. After taking in the views, descend back to the Toubkal Hut (3207m) for a break before continuing the descent to Aroumd Village (1940m). This is a long day, with 8-9 hours of trekking, covering 900m of ascent and almost 2500m of descent.
Day 6: Aroumd Village (1900m) – Imlil (1700m) – Marrakech
On the final day, you’ll trek from Aroumd Village (1900m) back to Imlil (1700m), passing through the stark slopes and jagged peaks of the Toubkal Massif, including Mount Aguelzim (3547m), Aksouâl (3847m), and Adrar Adj (3122m). After a lunch break, return to your lodge, freshen up, and then transfer back to Marrakech, bringing an end to your incredible adventure.
