Mount Toubkal Ascent 3-Day Hike Overview.
Experience the adventure of a lifetime as you trek to the summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4167m. Over three days, you’ll explore the stunning Atlas Mountains, Berber villages, and scenic valleys, all while climbing towards Toubkal’s majestic summit. The trek is designed for keen hikers, with a non-technical ascent that includes some easy scrambling and snow slopes, particularly in the winter months (October to May). From the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Marrakech to the north and the start of the Sahara Desert to the south, surrounded by the jagged peaks of the High Atlas.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1700m) – Toubkal Chalet (3207m)
After departing from Marrakech, you’ll drive to Imlil, the starting point of your trek. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your team, guides, and muleteers. The first day involves a steady climb, passing through the village of Aroumd and Marabout Sidi Chamharouch, a popular pilgrimage site where people come to seek cures for ailments. After a short break, continue southward to the Toubkal Refuge (3207m), where you’ll have lunch and settle in for the night. Expect 4-5 hours of walking.
Day 2: Toubkal Refuge (3207m) – Toubkal Summit (4167m) – Aroumd Village (1940m)
Start early in the morning for the ascent of Mount Toubkal. The climb to the summit (4167m) offers grand views of the surrounding mountains, including the Siroua Massif to the south and the plain of Haouz to the west. On a clear day, you’ll also see the peaks of the High Atlas. After reaching the summit and soaking in the panoramic views, descend back to the Toubkal Refuge for lunch. Then continue your descent towards Aroumd Village (1940m) for an overnight stay in a lodge. This is an 8-9 hour day of trekking.
Day 3: Aroumd Village (1940m) – Imlil – Marrakech
After breakfast, descend from Aroumd Village to Imlil, where you’ll meet your transport for the journey back to Marrakech.
